AEC stands for Architecture, Engineering, and Construction.

The AEC market is essentially the world of Computer-Aided Design CAD which comprises two categories of professionals. First, there are those who work with line s; for example, an electrical engineer drawing a schematic or an architect designing a floor plan. Second is the fast-growing number of professionals who work with two-dimensional and three-dimensional (solid mode l) rendered images, such as an automotive engineer developing a component. Here, the computer accurately images the part's shape, texture, and dimensions. The engineer can even verify that it will fit properly. Then the approved design is printed in 2-D for fabrication by the manufacturer.

It's all very efficient. But 3-D rendering requires large files (usually at least 1 gigabyte) that need enormous amounts of memory—and storage for backup.

Engineering

This sector includes a wide variety of specialized professionals. They work with both types of CAD. For instance, electrical engineers and HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) engineers typically work with line-drawing software. Structural engineers usually work with

2-D and 3-D rendering applications. You'll find engineering prospects virtually everywhere. Here are a few examples. Process engineers are often employed by manufacturing organizations. Civil engineers and surveyors work for everything from government agencies to oil, timber, and mining companies. Facilities engineers can be found in most every large company or office building.

Construction

Often working with architects and engineers, these professionals include contractors, builders, and construction managers.
